Wine Classes In Philadelphia

A Guide to Our Critically Acclaimed Wine Classes

We offer over 200 different classes, from Wine 101 to the First Growths of Bordeaux. No matter who you are –beginner or master sommelier— we have the perfect wine class for you.  We offer three tiers of classes: Learn About Wine, Wine Essentials, and the Luxury Level. Not sure what wine to take?  Take our Wine Quiz for some suggestions.

There is a reason why our wine classes are consistently ranked as the best in America. Each of our sommelier-instructors are the best in their field. Deep knowledge and passion runs through the veins of everyone here at the school. Couple that with an amazing wine tasting set in our beautiful Rittenhouse classroom, and you get the idea.

The best way to enjoy a class is in either a small groups or by yourself.  Keep in mind our wine classes are nothing like what you’ve experienced before, so leave your assumptions at the door. The school is staffed with brilliant academics and winemakers, not servants, so please don’t expect a restaurant experience. The smart and curious are embraced here. The snobby and self-centered not so much.

Wine Classes

Taking classes at the Wine School is fun and education. To take advantage of our tasting classes to the fullest, we suggest taking a series of classes that both fit your schedule but also maximize your enjoyment and knowledge. Of course, if you are really serious, we strongly suggest enrolling in the Core Wine Program.

We offer three sections of wine tasting classes (Learn about Wine, Wine Essentials, and Luxury).  You can take these classes in any order you prefer: we design with the assumption that there will a wide range of students in every class, from newbies to sommeliers. We do recommend taking classes from each section.

We list only a small example of classes we offer on this page. For a listing of currently available classes, please go to our Wine Tastings Classes page.

Wine Classes

Learn About Wine

The building blocks of wine knowledge are right here, so don’t miss out on these wonderful classes.

In these classes, you will learn the basics of wine: Learn how to read a wine label;  Discover the differences between types of wines; Learn some fundamental sommelier secrets; And discover why you like certain wines and not others.

We suggest taking between two and four classes in this section. For a comprehensive understanding of these subjects, we recommend taking the Foundation Wine Program.

Wine Classes

Wine Essentials

Discover the world of wine tasting in this series of  classes. All the essential bits of wine knowledge are offered here.

Learn about the wines of Italy (or France or Spain or Australia or America or Germany).  Take a class on Champagne & Bubbles. Delve into rare wines from exotic locales. Taste wines from American history.

This series of classes will blow your mind and expand your palate. It is suggested a student take between four and eight classes in this section.

For a comprehensive understanding of these subjects, we recommend taking the Intermediate Wine Program.

Wine Classes

Luxury Wine Classes

These classes are designed to highlight the best wines of the world.

This is where things get seriously awesome. Some of our most famous classes are offered at the Luxury Level: Barolo & Beyond, the Sommelier Smackdown, the Sommelier’s Guide to Pinot Noir, The Lux Cab Class.

These our most expensive classes we offer, but they are also one of Philly’s worst kept secrets: sommeliers travel from Manhattan and Washington D.C. to attend. We strongly suggest taking at least three of these classes to round out your wine studies.

Take The Wine Quiz

A great way to figure out what type of wine class you should take is to take our wine quiz. Keep in mind this is no ordinary quiz: this quiz isn’t designed to fluff your ego. It will give you an accurate overview of your wine knowledge level. Even Master Sommeliers find it challenging: the Wine Quiz.
